WEST TORRENS ART PRIZE (ADELAIDE, SA) 2019

The theme of 2019 West Torrens Art Prize is
‘Migration: Arrivals and Departures’. As one of the finalists,  my artwork is inspired by Art Deco style – ”Art Deco style was bold, positive, industrial and often futuristic and emerged from a world rising from the ashes of WWI”
(Source: ”Graphic Design Styles” on Medium).

Venue: 1 Brooker Terrace, Hilton, South Australia

Date: June 7- 30, 2019

My artwork is purchased by the staff of West Torrens City Council.

I think it’s perfect for 2019 theme as many modern day migrants and refugees seek the new life in Australia after the deep disappointment to home countries. When conceptualizing this artwork, a few key elements are: South Australia Architect Hubert Cowell designed the Art Deco style West Torrens Council in 1935; Rene Lalique’s ”Victoire”; aero-dynamic shapes; Egyptian zigzags, motion lines, etc.
